Stock Index Weekly Market Type Analysis 9 May 2016

Each week I review the current market type and fundamental considerations on a variety of stock and commodity indices. Market type analysis is critical to trade planning.  

MT = Market Type ( See lesson 8 in the Share Investing Course for Smart People)

  • Dow Jones – MT is sideways volatile. We are at the top of a sideways MT. Signals of a reversal but not strong as yet. Wait or tentative shorts.
  • US S&P 500 – MT is sideways volatile. As above.
  • US Nasdaq – MT is sideways volatile. Mid-range so wait.
  • US Russell 2000 – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • UK 100 – MT is sideways normal. Evening star pattern near top of range. Continue to sell.
  • Europe 50 – MT is sideways normal. Bearish engulfing off resistance. Continue to sell.
  • Germany 30 – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • France 40 – MT is sideways volatile. Bearish engulfing off resistance suggests sell.
  • Italy 40 – MT is bear normal. Continue short, but with caution as we are turning sideways.
  • Spain 35 – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Swiss 30 –  MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Netherlands 25 –  MT is sideways volatile. Pin candle at top of sideways volatile. Continue short.
  • Japan 225 – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • Hong Kong 33 – MT is bear volatile. Continue to sell.
  • China Class A Shares – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • Singapore 30 – MT is bear volatile. Bearish engulfing off resistance suggests sell in this market type. Continue short.
  • Australia 200 – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • New Zealand 50 – MT is bull fast. Continue to buy but careful of a sudden reversal in this market type. Showing some initial signs of topping so keep stops tight.
  • Canada 60 – MT is sideways volatile. Bearish hammer in this MT suggests sell.
  • Emerging Markets – MT is bear volatile. Weak pin candle in sideways volatile. Continue to sell.
  • Gold – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • Gold vs EURO – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • Silver – MT is bull normal.  Continue to buy.
  • Silver vs EURO – MT is bull normal.  Continue to buy.
  • Copper – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Iron Ore – MT is bull normal. But a minor topping pattern is in place. Wait.
  • Platinum – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • Palladium – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Bitcoin – MT is sideways quiet. Wait.
  • Brent Oil – MT is bull normal. Look to buy.
  • WTI Oil – MT is bull normal. Look to buy.
  • Natural Gas – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy, but careful of bearish engulfing.
  • Corn – MT is sideways normal. Breakout failed, wait for now.
  • Sugar – MT is sideways volatile.  Bearish piercing pattern after busted breakout in this MT suggests sell.
  • Soy Bean – MT is bull fast. Continue to look to buy but price action suggests it take partial profits here.
  • Wheat – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Cocoa – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • US T-Bond – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy, but with caution as we are turning sideways.
  • Euro Bund – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy, but with caution as we are turning sideways.
  • UK GILTS – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • Junk bonds – MT is bear volatile. Wait.
  • GBPUSD –  MT is sideways normal. Bearish engulfing after failed breakout suggests sell.
  • USDJPY – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • AUDUSD – MT is bull volatile. Wait or sell.
  • EURUSD – MT is sideways normal. Bearish hammer off key 1.15 level suggests sell.
  • NZDUSD – MT is sideways normal. Bearish engulfing suggests sell.
  • USDCHF – MT is bear volatile. Wait.
  • USDCAD – MT is bear normal. Continue short, but be very cautious with a large bullish engulfing here. Expect MT to turn sideways.
  • EURGBP – MT is bull volatile. Wait.
