From the FXWW Chatroom – Paul Krugman writing in New York Times on why a hard brexit will hit Europe even harder than UK – https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/16/opinion/what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-brexit.html Seems strange to me that the EU in the aftermath of the May defeat were very keen to stress that the deal on the table was non negotiable and that Article 50 was a legal process. Krugman argues – The thing is, an ugly Brexit should be easily avoidable. If the border infrastructure isn’t there, then just postpone the event until it is — or, if that’s impossible for some political reason, settle for minimal enforcement, basically a customs union in practice though not in principle, while things get sorted out.

And there’s no reason not to believe that things will in fact be worked out — no reason, that is, except everything that has happened between Britain and the E.U. so far.
