Stock Index Weekly Market Type Analysis 24 Jan 2016

Each week I review the current market type and fundamental considerations on a variety of stock and commodity indices. Market type analysis is critical to trade planning.  

MT = Market Type ( See lesson 8 in the Share Investing Course for Smart People)

  • US Dow Jones – MT is sideways volatile. Continue to wait with a slight bias towards a short-term bounce.
  • US S&P 500 – MT is sideways volatile. Bear normal failed with the formation of a bullish hammer. Look to buy for the short-term.
  • US Nasdaq – MT is sideways volatile. Bullish piercing pattern off support. Look to buy.
  • US Russell 2000 – MT is bear normal. Continue short, but take profits with a bullish hammer and expect some short-term upside.
  • UK 100 – MT is Sideways normal. Look to buy after the formation of a bullish engulfing off support. Short-term bounce only.
  • Europe 50 – MT is bear normal. Bullish candle off support, suggest some temporary upside.
  • Germany 30 – MT is sideways volatile. Bullish engulfing off support. Buy in this MT.
  • France 40 – MT is bear normal. Bullish engulfing, expect some temporary upside.
  • Italy 40 – MT is bear normal. Continue short, but wary of the bullish hammer.
  • Spain 35 – MT is bear normal. Continue to sell.
  • Swiss 30 –  MT is bear normal. But a bullish engulfing off support suggests some temporary upside.
  • Netherlands 25 –  MT is bear normal. Bullish engulfing off support suggests some temporary upside.
  • Japan 225 – MT is sideways normal. Breakout failed. Look to buy.
  • Hong Kong 33 – MT is bear normal. Continue to sell.
  • China Class A Shares – MT is bear normal. Breaking out into bear. Look to sell.
  • Singapore 30 – MT is fast bear. Continue to sell.
  • Australia 200 – MT is sideways normal. Bullish engulfing off support, look to buy.
  • New Zealand 50 – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • Canada 60 – MT is bear normal. Bullish piercing suggests caution.
  • Emerging Markets – MT is bear normal. Continue to sell, but bullish hammer suggests caution.
  • Gold – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • Gold vs EURO – MT is sideways normal. Continue to buy.
  • Silver – MT is sideways normal.  Wait.
  • Silver vs EURO – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Copper – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • Iron Ore – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • Platinum – MT is bear normal. Continue short.
  • Palladium – MT is bear normal. Continue short, but weary of a weekly bullish hammer.
  • Bitcoin – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • Brent Oil – MT is bear normal. Continue to sell in the medium term, but Brent was up 10% on Friday and further upside possible.
  • WTI Oil – MT is bear normal. Continue to sell in the medium term, but WTI was up 8% on Friday and further upside possible.
  • Natural Gas – MT is bear normal. Bullish engulfing, suggests temporary upside.
  • Corn – MT is sideways quiet. Breakout is now busted. Look to buy.
  • Sugar – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Soy Bean – MT is sideways quiet. Wait.
  • Wheat – MT is sideways normal. Wait.
  • Cocoa – MT is bear normal.  Continue to sell.
  • US T-Bond – MT is sideways normal. Little bearish hammer, look to sell.
  • Euro Bund – MT is bull normal. Continue to buy.
  • UK GILTS – MT is sideways volatile. Wait.
  • Junk bonds – MT is bear fast. Continue short, but bullish hammer suggests taking profits.
